CPA Exam Test Center Closed: Weather, Prometric Cancellation, and What to Do
If Prometric closes your test center, that is not the same as you missing the appointment. First confirm whether Prometric actually cancelled the appointment, then follow the closure process.
What happens after a closure?
NASBA currently says a Prometric cancellation can take approximately 24 hours to clear from the system. After it clears, you can schedule another appointment within the remaining validity of the NTS.
Do not pay to reschedule immediately
If Prometric already cancelled the appointment, let that cancellation process. Manually rescheduling before it clears can cause a normal rescheduling fee to be charged.
What if the NTS is about to expire?
If a closure makes it impossible to test before expiration, contact NASBA Candidate Care or the applicable authority. An extension may need to be considered through that process.
What if the center is open but weather is terrible?
Current guidance says candidates should make an effort to attend if the site is open, provided safety and well-being are not at risk. If roads are closed, flights are cancelled, or travel is unsafe, document the situation and contact the applicable authority.
What documentation should you save?
- Weather reports.
- Travel advisories.
- Flight cancellations.
- Road closures.
- Prometric communications.
- Appointment confirmation.
What information may NASBA need?
Be ready with your name, section, Section ID, appointment date, testing center, description of the problem, supporting weather or travel documentation, and current NTS expiration date.
Does Prometric automatically book another date?
No. Once the cancellation clears, you need to choose another available appointment.
What if the new dates are bad?
Search nearby centers, different times, and different dates. If NTS expiration is close, contact the applicable authority quickly.
What if this is a Discipline window?
If the section is BAR, ISC, or TCP and the testing window is closing, a center cancellation can matter more because replacement availability may be limited.
Test center closed vs no-show
Test center closed
Prometric cancelled the appointment.
No-show
The center was operating and you did not properly attend or cancel.
What if the center loses power during the Exam?
Report the problem to test-center staff immediately and follow their instructions. If the disruption materially affected the administration, document and report the incident through the applicable process.
Closure checklist
- Before leaving home, check Prometric status, email, weather, and travel conditions.
- If closed, save the official cancellation.
- Let the cancellation clear.
- Reschedule after the old appointment is removed.
- If NTS expiration is a problem, contact Candidate Care.
- If the center is open but travel is unsafe, document why.
The takeaway
Save the notice → let the cancellation clear → reschedule.
If NTS expiration or a Discipline testing window creates a problem, escalate quickly.
