I Am Getting 30% to 50% on Becker MCQs. Am I Screwed?
No. Especially if you use MCQs as part of the learning process. Your first attempt is not supposed to prove you already mastered material you are still learning.
What a 40% actually tells you
It tells you that many questions exposed something you did not handle correctly yet. That can be useful information if you review it properly.
The wrong reaction
Score 42%, get angry, immediately redo the same questions, score 91%, and move on feeling accomplished. You may have learned. You may also remember the answers.
Better remediation
For each miss, ask why your answer was wrong, why the correct answer is right, what rule was being tested, and whether you could solve it again with different facts. Then retry later.
Watch the trend, not the first score
A first attempt in the 40s followed by improving fresh and mixed sets shows learning. The original score becomes less important as your evidence changes.
When low scores become a concern
- You completed the whole section and remain near guessing level.
- You cannot explain misses after reviewing them.
- Your scores are not improving.
- You repeatedly miss the same concepts.
- You recognize questions but cannot solve fresh versions.
The takeaway
Do not protect your practice-test percentage. Expose weaknesses while you still have time to fix them.
