CPA Study Process Guide · Updated November 2026

Do You Need to Master Every CPA Module Before Moving On?

No. You need enough understanding to continue, then you return through retrieval and mixed review.

Why perfectionism fails

You can spend ten hours on a small module, feel great, and still forget part of it six weeks later. The answer is repeated retrieval over time, not staying forever.

When to move on

  • You understand the main idea.
  • You can solve a reasonable portion of questions.
  • You know which parts remain weak.
  • The weakness will not block the next Area.

When to stay longer

  • You cannot explain the core concept.
  • You are blindly guessing nearly everything.
  • The topic is foundational for what comes next.
  • Repeated review produces no improvement.

Use a flagged-weakness list

Instead of refusing to leave a topic, write down the remaining weakness, move forward, and return during Area review, mixed review, or final review.

Your first pass has a different job

The first pass creates exposure, basic understanding, and a map. Later passes create retrieval, connections, speed, and precision.

How this fits Summit

Attempt questions → diagnose misses → review the weak rule → retest → go deeper only if needed → move.

The takeaway

You are not supposed to finish every module thinking you will never forget it.

Learn → move → retrieve → repair.
